Seminar on responsible innovation practices
A seminar on responsible innovation practices in reproductive medicine will be held on the 31st of August 2022. The seminar brings together researchers of ethics and reproductive medicine to discuss about ethically responsible innovation principles, focusing on assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) and non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).
The event takes place online in Zoom (the link will be sent to all participants 1 day before). Participation is free and registration is now closed.
Morning session (10:00 – 12:00 CET): Assisted reproductive technologies
10:00 Guido de Wert (University of Maastricht): Responsible innovation in medically assisted reproduction
So far, new assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have regularly been introduced in the clinic without adequate preclinical research into their effectiveness and safety, exposing women and future children to avoidable risks. What about a normative framework for responsible innovation in assisted reproduction?

11:00 Masoud Zamani Esteki (University of Maastricht): Innovative technologies to broaden the scope of reproductive genetic care
Afternoon session (13:00 – 15:00 CET): Non-invasive prenatal testing
13:00 Guido de Wert: Responsible innovation in prenatal screening: the case of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT)
Prenatal screening is highly dynamic. The NIPT is widely considered to be a real improvement. Still, ethical reflection is important in order to guide further responsible innovation.
